Plamen Petrov was born in 1971 in Sofia. He began playing the guitar at the age of 12. In 2000, he graduated from the National Academy of Music Pancho Vladigerov, Sofia, in pop and jazz guitar. Five years later, he achieved a master’s degree. In addition to pop and jazz, he also plays classical guitar. His creative interests are varied, but his preferences lead him to jazz.
Petrove has been a member of a number of jazz and rock bands: as well as his native Bulgaria he has played with bands in Hong Kong, Great Britain, Norway, the Netherlands, and Estonia. He has played in major stage and television shows, both solo and as a band member. In 2001, he formed the Plamen Petrov Trio, playing festivals and clubs in Bulgaria and internationally. His discography includes three albums of his works: “With the Moon Alone Together” (2001, with the trio); “Tell Me About You” (2014, with musicians Mihail Yosifov, Hristo Yotsov, Atanas Hadjiev and Boris Taslev); “See the World” (2016, music for two guitars played in concert with Milena Valcheva). In 2007 he started teaching; since 2011 he has taught at Rock School, Sofia.
Petrov has composed over 400 pieces in different styles for classical or acoustic guitar solo, duo or trio, as well as jazz pieces.
