Rick Doornbos (b. 1996) is a guitarist from the north of the Netherlands. He started playing the guitar at the age of nine, and from the first moment, it was clear to him that he didn't want to do anything else. In those early years of guitar lessons, Rick was already very creative and inventive - he would rather play his own compositions than the pieces he got from his teacher. Over the years, that hasn't changed much; he still likes to play his own works the most.
Rick started studying at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen with Sabrina Vlaskalic in 2016. He graduated his bachelor degree with cum laude in June 2020. Currently, he is studying Music Teaching and Master of Music simultaneously, both at the Prince Claus Conservatory. Besides Sabrina Vlaskalic, he also had lessons with Goran Krivokapic with Kristina Vårlid.
Rick has also participated in many masterclasses, including Leo Brouwer, Aniello Desiderio and Gabriel Bianco. Rick enjoys being busy with his creative approach to interpreting music. He needs to tell his own story with the pieces he performs. Rick Doornbos compose a lot, and he also loves to perform! The concert programs are always a combination of other composers works and his own compositions.
