Carsten Grøndahl was born in Aalborg Denmark in 1961. He was educated at the Academies of Music in Aalborg, Malmö and Copenhagen. He has taken masterclasses with John Williams, Manuel Barrueco, David Russell and Roberto Aussel. He has released a series of 7 solo CDs, to international acclaim.
In addition to the six-stringed classical guitar, Grøndahl also plays the eleven-stringed alto guitar. The alto guitar is particularly well suited to the lute music of the Renaissance and the Baroque.
Grøndahl is today one of the most in-demand concert guitarists in Scandinavia. He gives concerts all over the world, including recitals and appearances as a soloist with prestigious orchestras such as the Belgrade Symphony Orchestra.
Grøndahl performs in duo and trio chamber music with soprano, guitar, flute and violin. He enjoys teaching, delivering several masterclasses each year. He is a jury member in international guitar competitions, and Artistic Director of Malmö International Guitar Festival.
As well as performing and teaching, Grøndahl arranges music for the guitar, like the excellent transcription of Telemann’s Suite in D offered here by Bergmann Edition
