Born in Pereira, Colombia, Camilio Giraldo Angel began his studies in guitar and composition at the Pereira Conservatory, later continuing at the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) and the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana, Cuba. His teachers included Jesús Ortega, Leo Brouwer, Eduardo Martín, and Tulio Peramo.

He has toured extensively, performing in more than 30 countries worldwide and has received numerous awards and commissions, including:

 

 

·       Aarlborg Festival Guitar Composition Award, Denmark 2025 (works published by Bergmann Edition)

·       Artistic Residency in Mexico (FONCA and Ministry of Culture)

·       Two-time winner of the IDARTES FullDome Video Art Prize

·       Winner of the JANUS Award (Jena, Germany) as composer and sound designer for full-dome format

·       Official Selection, Immersphere Festival, Brasília Planetarium, 2017

·       Finalist, Engine Room Sound Art Competition, London, UK, 2015

·       National Award for Musical Composition and Literature, Ministry of Culture of Colombia, 2014

Camilo Giraldo Angel has recorded nearly 20 albums and two DVDs. His two most recent albums as a composer-performer premiered at the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo, one of Colombia’s most important theatres.

Since 2008, he has worked as a composer with the contemporary dance company L’Explose and has served as musical director for more than 30 performing arts and interdisciplinary projects.

He is currently a member of the transdisciplinary collective La Quinta del Lobo as composer and musical director, and of the guitar trio Trip Trip Trip.

He also continues an active career as a solo concert artist, touring internationally.
