Collection: Henríquez, Josep
Josep Henríquez was born in Barcelona in 1951. Thanks to some 50 years of highly acclaimed concerts that have taken him all over the world, he is considered one of the great performers and teachers of the classical guitar. He has been a frequent participant in major international festivals and is often invited to conduct master-classes, give lecture demonstrations, and serve as a jury member in international competitions.
Henríquez has performed in such prestigious concert halls as the Tchaikovsky Theater in Moscow, Wigmore Hall in London, the Herbst Theater in San Francisco, Cemal Resit Rey in Istanbul, the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. and Beijing Concert Hall. He has also appeared as a soloist with great symphony and chamber orchestras such as the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Virtuosi di Praga, Beijing Symphony Orchestra and Shanghai Filharmonic Orchestra.
Teaching has always been an important element of Henríquez's artistic career. In 1981, he became a professor of guitar at the Music and Arts Institute of San Francisco in California. In 1992, at the request of the Spanish government, he founded the “Andrés Segovia Guitar Classroom” at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music in China. Between 1982 and 2013, he was Head of the Guitar Department at the Music Conservatory of Granollers in Barcelona. From 2013 to 2019 he lived in China, and became a professor of guitar in DeTao Masters Academy at Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts.
Bergmann Edition brings you, in Spanish and English, a wonderful book that distils Henríquez's knowledge and thinking about the classical guitar and provides insight and guidance to students of all levels. His love of the instrument shines through every sentence.
