I can say, with no fear of being wrong, that with Alejandro Nogales we have before us one of the best exponents of the new generation of guitarists. Take note of his name; you won't forget it easily.
— Juan Erena (composer and teacher at the Conservatorio Elemental de Música de Cazorla)
Alejandro Nogales started his musical studies at the age of six and entered the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Valencia when he turned 12, completing his professional training under Juan Luis Roldán and winning the Professional Prize for guitar. His composition teacher there was Ferrer Ferran, a well-known Valencian composer; it was from these lessons a vocation for composition grew in Alejandro.
At the age of 18 he started his bachelor studies at the Conservatorio Superior, now with professor Rubén Parejo. During this period, he benefitted greatly from other great masters, like Carlos Amat (chamber music) and Tomás Gilabert (analysis).
From 2023 to 2024, he attended the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg on an Erasmus scholarship. He was there mentored by Marco Tamayo and took composition and counterpoint classes with Ludwig Nussbichler and Franz Zaunschirm.
In 2023, he formed a student orchestra for the premier of his Piano concerto op.1 at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Valencia, and in October 2024 premiered his own Sonata for guitar op.5, in Jaén. His diverse body of work includes: two piano sonatas, a horn sonata, a string quartet, a chamber symphony for strings and works for guitar orchestra.
Contact with Eliot Fisk, David Russell, Leo Brouwer, Thu Le, Hopkinson Smith, Ricardo Gallén and Denis Azabagic has refined and developed Alejandro's guitar playing, and he has won several prizes at international guitar competitions, including the Autonomical Prize (2021), 1st prize at the Ferran Sor Competition (2021) and 3rd Prize at the Gandia Guitar Competition (2025).
Concerts include appearances at the Concert Hall of Castellón, the Palau de la Música de Valencia and for the Amigos de la Guitarra de Valencia.
In 2025 Alejandro Nogales released his debut CD, Love & Life (La Buhardilla Records), featuring the complete sonatas for guitar by the Spanish composer Juan Erena. Videos of the fourth and sixth sonatas can be viewed here and here. Alejandro's YouTube channel can be explored here.
