Collection: Powell, Dick

Dick Powell is a church musician, guitarist and composer from Shreveport, Louisiana. Originally from Texas, he grew up in Monroe, Louisiana, where he began his music education in the instrumental music program of the Ouachita Parish School System. He obtained his degree in music theory and composition at Northeast Louisiana University and continued his studies in composition at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Although he started his career in music education as a middle school and high school band director, he has spent the majority of his life as a minister of music and worship leader in the local church.

His compositions feature strong melodic writing, compelling rhythms and fresh, often surprising, harmonies. His pieces for guitar are challenging yet accessible for the intermediate to advanced player.
