Luigi Scarpa, composer and guitarist, was born in 1995 in Lecce, Italy. At the age of 9, he began studying classical guitar, and in 2024, he graduated with honours from the "Nino Rota" Conservatory in Monopoli (BA) under the guidance of Maestro Adalisa Castellaneta. He also studied composition with esteemed teachers such as Riccardo Panfili and Federico Gardella.
Currently, Luigi Scarpa serves as a guitar teacher at the A. Casardi High School in Barletta (BAT), Italy.
In his compositional style, Luigi Scarpa blends complex, refined, contemporary classical music with various genre influences, including jazz fusion, Arabic music, and progressive music.
Luigi Scarpa believes that musical compositions are like "USB sticks" containing the "spiritual data" of the inspiration that created them. In this view, his pieces are "planted" in the soul of the performer and, especially, the listeners, to later "bloom" like flowers—symbols of lofty and complex concepts that only music can teach us, as philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer writes: "Music is a true 'metaphysics in sound,' capable of allowing us to access the deepest essence of things, beyond the limits of reason. It is a universal language that could exist even if the world itself were to collapse."
As a composer, he has won numerous composition competitions, including the 1st Absolute Prize at the International Competition "Città di Barletta," with a score of 98/100, and the 1st Absolute Prize at the International Composition Competition "Euregio Klassika" in Trento.
The artist Yulia Potatueva chose one of his compositions for piano (the 2nd movement of Sonata No. 1, Adagio - Aquarelles Dans L'Eau) as the sonic backdrop for her digital photography exhibition sponsored by "R.E.M." (Real Embodiment Movement).
The renowned guitarist and professor at the Conservatory of Bergamo, Giulio Tampalini, commissioned and revised the piece Hypnosis (2024) for solo guitar.
His works are performed in Italy and across Europe. Notable world premieres include Richiami Ancestrali (2024) for orchestra, performed at the Pinacoteca of Nocera Umbra (PG) in 2024; Sonata No. 1 (2023) for solo piano, performed in Lugano (CH) in 2025; and When You Have No Nails (2022) for solo guitar, performed at the prestigious "Brno Guitar Festival" in 2023.
In January 2025, two of his works, Hypnosis (2024) for solo piano and Fiori di Seta (2025) for solo piano, were recorded by pianist Antonia De Pasquale for the Hungarian record label Harmònia Early Music. In the same year, his piece Metamorphosis (2023) for piano and cello was recorded by Antonia De Pasquale and Alessandro Parfitt for the "Doppio Movimento" label under "Clamore Group."
He also serves as a reviewer for the guitar section of the piece Porto Insepolto, published by "Suvini Zerboni" by the well-known contemporary composer Riccardo Panfili.
As a guitarist, he has refined his studies with prestigious teachers, including Giulio Tampalini, Luciano Tortorelli, Antigoni Goni, Lucio Matarazzo, Massimo Delle Cese, Tali Roth, Lukasz Kuropacewsky, Milosz Macinzky, Paco Seco, Giacomo Susani, Eduardo Fernandez, Maurizio Di Fulvio, Andreas von Wangenheim, Andrea Dieci, and Eleonora Perretta.
He participated in the prestigious "Brno Guitar Festival" in the Czech Republic for two years (2021, 2023) and in the "Guitar Oasis International" in Torchiara (SA) in 2023, directed by Maestro Tali Roth, professor at Juilliard, New York.
His curiosity about various musical genres has led him to explore many areas of music, actively participating in seminars on improvisation, Indian music, and jazz with masters such as Gianni Lenoci, Greg Burk, Francesco Negro, Francesco Diodati, and Imran Khan.
He performs solo and in chamber ensembles such as the "DVGQ Guitar Quartet" or the guitar duo "Luigi Scarpa – Francesca Vasta."
Among his most important concerts, we mention his solo performance with the ICO Orchestra of Bari, where he performed the Double Concerto for Guitar, Violin, and String Orchestra Op. 114 by Raffaele Gervasio in 2022; his solo concert in Lecce for the "Lupiae Guitar Festival"; numerous quartet performances (Delle Volte Guitar Quartet) for major cultural associations, including "Fasano Musica" in Fasano (2021), "Agimus" in Mola di Bari (2020), "Misure Composte" in Bari (2020), and a duo concert (Luigi Scarpa – Francesca Vasta) for "Urticanti" in Cellammare (2023).
