Sergio Coldagelli
Sergio Coldagelli was born in Tivoli, an ancient town just outside Rome. He started his musical studies at the age of 15, learning different musical genres, such as jazz, blues, and folk. He studied instrumental theory at the “Licino Refice” conservatory in Frosinone and subesquently at the “Alfredo Casella” conservatory in L’Aquila, where he developed a passionate appetite for musical study. After long period of studying music and composition, he became acquainted with Maestro Pier Luigi Corona whose classical guitar playing so inspired him that he set out to perfect his own skills on that instrument.
Coldagelli wanted to compose music from his earliest childhood; but his talent found its outlet only in adult life. The quality and feel of most of his works is impressionistic and related memory and nature. They contain momentary, fleeting glimpses whose musical contours are suspended and give a dreamlike, refined and elegant atmosphere, which at times is highly poetic. Though the pieces seem simple, they offer much in the way of technical challenge, in particular in their various forms of scales and arpeggios which stretch both left and right hand. They also contain a huge variety of subtle, unusual harmonies.
