Martin Schley, Hommage a Gershwin

for solo guitar.

The piece "Hommage a Gershwin" was written for the famous American composer's 125th birthday in 2023. Like nearly no one before, Gershwin connected so-called‚ classical with popular music and created his very own style and artistic language.
Songs of his musicals have become some of the most catchy tunes in music history.
I chose some of Gershwin's most famous melodies for my composition and mixed them up with impressionistic colours. I hope you enjoy the "Gershwin Sound" on the guitar!
The first performance of "Hommage a Gershwin" was by the composer in Ahrensburg, Germany, on September 9th, 2023.
