‘Heat and Dust’ has a desolate lonely quality, haunting and slightly mournful. Although the cadences are Spanish, it has an American/Mexican flavor, like the theme of a forgotten Western. Its combination of stopped and open strings and awkward left-hand shapes make it an exceptionally challenging piece to play.
