A suite in four movements for solo guitar. Lashley's SUITE AMERICANA was written as a tribute to the baroque suite — a favourite among guitarist all over the world. The muse of Johann Sebastian Bach and Silvius Leopold Weiss can be heard with the movements Prelude, Allemande, Sarabande and Gigue reflecting the traditional stylistic features of form and meter of the period. Lashley was also inspired by the airy harmonies of jazz and those of American composers of the twentieth century, imparting a fresh sound that appeals to those that may not be especially keen to classical music. Lashley's Suite is a marriage between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries with modern times, providing an abstract conduit to the past and the past to the present.
