Mourey, Colette

Colette Mourey (b. France, 1954) is a guitarist, professor of music, researcher in musicology and composer. She studied musicology at the Sorbonne under the Edith Weber and passed the aggregation. First and foremost an exponent of classical guitar (which she studied under Uruguayan guitarist Oscar Caceres), she is also a pianist. As a teacher, she teaches the writing, aesthetics and didactics of music at the University of Franche-Comté and at the Higher School of Teaching and Education.

Mourey’s musical researches into the atonal music of her teacher Julien Falk led to the development of a new musical system called "hypertonality". It is based on spiral scales (in amplitudes greater than the octave), radically transforming the techniques of atonal counterpoint. This allows the reintroduction of "natural sounding", in a contemporary language, which helps to bring contemporary music to the general public.

Mourey is the author of numerous books on musicology and education. She has won several major International Prizes (“Music and Earth”, 2012), Grand Prizes from the IBLA Foundation (2012, 2013 and 2014) and Fondazione Adkins Chiti: and “Donne in Musica” selections for her pieces “Abacus”, “Quintetto La Maestria” and “3 Variations sur l’Hymne Européen”.
