Juan Erena Mármol Guitar teacher, composer and arranger. He began his guitar studies with Luis Vidueira in the CPM of Jaén, continuing his studies later in the CPM "Victoria Eugenia" of Granada with Professor Carmelo Martínez.
In those years, and attracted by the cultural atmosphere that was breathed by the city at that time, his interest in jazz was born. He studied jazz double bass with David André Black.
Throughout his career, he has studied and perfected his training with teachers such as David Russell, Leo Brouwer, José Tomás, Luca Chiantore, Angelo Gilardino, Polo Vallejo, Arturo Serra, Jorge Cardoso, José Carlos Zárate, among others.
He studied shrimp viola with Ventura Rico, Alfredo Barrales and Rami Alqhai.
His interest in unravelling the secrets of the instrument led him to study lutherie with José Ángel Espejo in Jaca (Zaragoza).
He has taught Harmony and Improvisation and new technologies (ICT) applied to the guitar in different Universities and Music Schools. He has also been working as a teacher in Conservatories such as the RCSM in Madrid, CPM "Ángel Arias Macein" (Madrid), CPM "Muñoz Molleda" (La Línea, Cádiz), CPM "Andrés Segovia" (Linares, Jaén) or CPM "Carlos Ross" (Guadix, Granada)
As a composer, he has worked for the theatre company "Laví e bel" in the musical show Cabaret Caracol, winner of the Palma Del Río Prize in 2001, which was a great success with the public and critics, or the company Break a Leg Producciones in their play "Backstage", directed by José Luis Saiz; or as a musical advisor and coach for the actor Alfonso Begara in the film "Camarón" by Jaime Chavarri (2005). He also collaborates in the soundtrack of the film "Entre Nosotros" by Dario Stegmayer (2006)
He has composed a great number of works for guitar, distributed in publishing houses such as Bergmann Edition, Mundoplectro, Pilesmusic and Jesús Serrano Huitron, among which it is worth mentioning, for solo guitar: Alhorí; Two pieces of struggle and hope; Two reflections; Gotas de Lluvia, Variaciones Sobre la Folia; Fuga sobre un tema de Bill Evans; Tiempo para un silencio; Four dream pieces; Find you again; Island memories; Five Preludes; Five Sonatas; Twelve studies for guitar; Luz del Alba; Two-night pieces; Like every Spring; Song from home; Soul of fire; etc
For other instrumental groups, we can highlight his work "Cuaderno de otoño" for cello and guitar or the quintet "A cloud in the sky".
His music has been recorded and premiered in different places around the world as the Festival Guitarras del Mundo (Argentina), Festival Internacional de Rio Grande (Brazil), Festival Internacional Divertimento (Mexico City), in the XVIII Season of concerts of the Conservatory of Las Rosas (Michoacan), Mexico), IV International Guitar Festival (Oaxaca, Mexico), UNAM in Chicago and Mexico through events such as the program "Ventana Sonora" presented and directed by Juan Carlos Laguna and Sofia Rulloni, in whose space a monographic is dedicated to his compositional figure; Guitar Festival of Nizhny Novgorod (Russia); Concert "A guitarra em verso" (Madeira, Portugal); "Las fortalezas de la música" (Cartagena, Murcia); Concert Music and Heritage (Carmona, Seville); the premiere of "Alhorí" in the Master in the CSM "Óscar Esplá" (Alicante); and many other places like Basilea (Switzerland), Chicago (USA); Tel Aviv (Israel); Maastricht (Holland), Malaysia, Ukraine, etc.
Likewise, his work has been the object of study in the Master of Interpretation and Musical Research, of the VIU of Valencia: "Juan Erena, new music for a new time" by Ángel Cruz.
