Adrian Allan, Calderstone
For trombone and guitar
Calderstones, for tenor trombone and guitar, is an evocation of the Neolithic burial chamber in Liverpool. The piece aims to capture the majesty and mystery of the ancient monument, which today stands within a park greenhouse in the Allerton district of Liverpool. The park was a popular destination for a young John Lennon, who lived very close. The Calderstones are encrypted with "cup and ring" markings, the meaning of which has defied generations of archaeologists.
