Andrew J Williams, Like the Rain
For solo guitar.
"Like the Rain" is both a challenging technical study and a magical short performance piece which would make a great concert encore. It relies on the "music box" effect of a melody played in artificial harmonics. This has been done before, of course, but here it is wedded with several additional elements. First, the harmonics combine with a campanella over-ringing to evoke delicate rainfall. Second, the main melodic theme is accompanied in places with a counterpoint. Third, the contrasting central section calls for expressive playing in natural tone without harmonics. The whole piece has a continuous melodic flow and touches of sophistication in the harmony.
Performance time is approximately 2 minutes.
