Andrew Williams, Two Pieces: Blue and Gold and In the Breeze
‘Blue and Gold’ is a nocturne in D major with dropped D tuning, bringing deeply resonant harmonies from the guitar. It makes use of all the possibilities of the deep basses. It is slow and peaceful, leaving a great deal of room for expressive playing.
‘In the Breeze’ is styled after a baroque Air. It has a soothing, dreamy melody that allows the performer to bring out singing tones in the guitar. There is nothing virtuosic to distract from the pure melodic lines. It has some interesting modulations. This piece is of an intermediate level of difficulty, but to play it really well would require some expressive skills.
