MICHAŁ KLEOFAS OGIŃSKI, "FAREWELL TO THE HOMELAND"
POLONAISE FOR GUITAR QUARTET
Arranged by Marek Tabisz.
Farewell to the Homeland is one of the most famous polonaises in Poland. It appeared in print in 1794 (manuscript has not survived). It belongs to the genre of melancholic polonaises (so it is not utilitarian but stylized dance), created at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, during the period of sentimentality, when throughout Europe the classic style began to give way to romanticism. As a musical piece, the polonaise had a great impact on other composers.
