MAURICE RAVEL - KADDISH from DEUX MÉLODIES HÉBRAÏQUES

Arranged for voice and guitar by Marek Tabisz.

Written in 1914, Kaddish is the first of two songs contained in Deux mélodies hébraïques. Kaddish ("holy" in Aramaic) is a hymn of praise to God used during Jewish prayer services. The main theme of Kaddish is the exaltation and sanctification of God's name. Ravel uses Aramaic text from a Jewish prayer book here. The song was first performed in June 1914 by Alvina Alvi, who ordered it - the composer himself sat at the piano.
Each subsequent performance of this song makes a great impression on me. But the main impulse to work on the arrangement were wonderful concerts of two great artists: the outstanding South Korean soprano
Sumi Jo and the charismatic Polish guitarist Krzysztof Meisinger. Artists to whom I dedicate this arrangement.
