Gregory Alan Schneider, Merl/Travis Rag
For solo guitar. Includes ordinary notation and TAB.
The Merl/Travis Rag is an étude meant to introduce and develop the Travis Picking technique, that was developed by guitarist Merle Travis in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The Travis picking technique is characterized by its “bouncing thumb” style of playing in which the right-hand thumb alternates between two or three bass strings while the fingers play the melody on the treble strings. The technique was popularized and further developed by players such as Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Doc Watson, and Tommy Emmanuel.
