Although the work retains the overall conception of the classical sonata cycle, Sonata in Three Landscapes offers a musical journey inspired by three traditional genres from the Colombian Andean region.

Rather than recreating these genres from a folkloric perspective, the work treats them as compositional material for the construction of a personal musical language, in which tradition and contrapuntal craft remain in constant dialogue.
