Torben Andersen, Snowy Impressions
For guitar duet.
"Snowy Impressions" describes my beloved Karelian bear dog Sally's last long walk in the harsh winter of 2010. She loved frost and snow, and I did not doubt that she was in her proper element during this walk. She died a few months later.
I originally wrote this duet for a classical guitar orchestra, and it consists of six small parts which, with different effects, describe our shared experiences in the snowy forest. The movements include a march as an introduction, flageolets to describe the beautiful snowfall, pizzicato to imitate the deer's steps, etc. The piece is thematically worked through the various movements and ends with the melodic part: "Winter Wonderland".
This piece has always been close to my heart. It was an attempt to process the grief of the loss of a dear family member.
