Ange Turell, Two Pieces for Solo Guitar
Two pieces for solo guitar.
Adelaida is a piece dedicated to Adelaida Portillo, the first wife of Andres Segovia. The music is melancholic and I consider it to be a sort of lamentation of the fact that so many women throughout history have lived in the shadows of their famous husbands, raising children and caring for the household, managing so many things that never gain much attention.
Basically, it is set in the key of G-minor, but this tonality is very ambiguous and uncertain. Some simple motives are repeated, slightly changed and set in different tonal surroundings.

The Well is also a piece with a somewhat melancholic atmosphere, based on a very simple, hymn-like melody I wrote several years ago. It starts in a meditative mood that is suddenly interrupted by the very fluid and quite dramatic middle section, where some melodic fragments are intertwined with spots of rhythmic frenzy. Through a series of events, travelling through different minor keys, it eventually returns to the starting point.
