The Køge-studies were written for guitar students at the music school of Køge as a part of my employment. The aim has been to write technical exercises, concert-studies, that would introduce the player to a style more modernistic than the average 19th-century studies of the classical tradition. The nine studies cover a range of traditional techniques such as different arpeggios (study 2,3,4,5,7) barrés (6), natural harmonics (5,8), tremolos (8) and slurs (9). These are combined with a " postmodernistic " way of writing and techniques like Bartók pizz (1), playing on crossed strings and intonation with a teaspoon(3), glissandi (1,3,5) and etouffé (8). The style and level of the studies reflect the different personalities and levels of my students, whom I wish to thank for the open-minded discussions of details and expression and for the many hours of practice spent before the 1st performance of the studies on the 20th of May 2017. Each study is dedicated to the student for whom it was written. Study no. 8 bears no dedication as it was written for myself to play at the concert. I also wish to thank Køge Musikskole for the time spent in a joyful way writing these studies, and for the opportunity to enlarge the didactic repertoire a bit.
