Alan Grundy was born in Dublin in 1950 and began playing the guitar in his early teens. His first serious studies in guitar began in 1970 with the world-famous jazz guitarist Louis Stewart, and then at the Dylan Todd School of Classical Guitar in Dublin. Within a year he was asked to teach at the school and so began his teaching career which now spans almost 50 years.
Alan holds a Master’s Degree in Performance and Musicology from the National University of Ireland, as well as the FTCL, LRSM and ALCM Diplomas. He has performed extensively throughout Ireland and continental Europe and represented Ireland at the Budapest Spring Festival and ‘A Sense of Ireland Festival’ in Istanbul.
In 1979 he founded The Dublin School of Guitar and still teaches there today. Other teaching post were at the National University of Ireland (2001 – 2014) and the Dublin Institute of Technology (1981 – 2016)
During his career Alan has composed; arranged and transcribed well over 100 works of varying styles and difficulty. He is now semi-retired and is devoting most of his time towards composing for solo guitar.
