Having learned to play the piano as a child, Gorelova entered the Belarusian State Academy of Music, Minsk in 1971 to study composition with Anatoly Bogatyrev and Dmitry Smolsky. From 1983 to 1989 she attended the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory, Moscow, where her teacher was Yuri Fortunatov. Her creative output has been prolific and includes concertos and other orchestral works, a quantity of chamber music, choral pieces and songs, as well a number of instrumental works. Among the most important G. Gorelova’s compositions are cantatas “Anno mundi ardentis” to the verses of the 20th century poets (State prize of the Republic of Belarus of 1992), “A thousand Years of Hope” – to the poems of 10th – 20th century’s female poets, Poem for great symphonic orchestra and authentic voices “Bondarovna” after Yanka Kupala. Guitar music is represented by such works as: \"Biblical Motifs\",\" The Castle of Mir\", Prelude and Fugue, \"Rodin\",\" Charon \" and other works.
