After working as a visual artist and teacher in the 1980s, he returned to music with the Irish traditional band Waxies Dargle for much of the 1990s. I have always thought of this piece as accompanying the end of a French Film.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan class=\"fontstyle2\"\u003eWhen I get to Heaven. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan class=\"fontstyle0\"\u003eA longer piece based of a blues motif with a\u003cbr\u003ecentral section of flowing and interlocking musical fragments.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan class=\"fontstyle2\"\u003eJohn Hardy’s English Friends\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan class=\"fontstyle0\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e.\u003c\/strong\u003e This is largely based on the American\u003cbr\u003e“clawhammer“ picking style. It explores the inner journey of the condemned man in the song John Hardy through a number of musical\u003cbr\u003eepisodes or settings.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan class=\"fontstyle2\"\u003eThose Mysterious ways. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan class=\"fontstyle0\"\u003eA lengthy and complex piece based on a haunting\u003cbr\u003eE minor\/F# theme that reoccurs from time to time throughout the piece. Again, it takes the player and the listener on something of a journey\u003cbr\u003ethrough a series of solved and unsolved incidents.\u003cbr\u003eWhile I was writing these pieces I played them on both nylon-strung and steel-strung guitars. In my opinion they can be played successfully on both types of instrument.
